The first thing you hear is the sound of rain faintly hitting the exterior of the house. The soft pitter-patter is almost soothing, in a way, but it’s quickly followed up by rumbling thunder in the distance. You open your eyes, and for a second all you see is a flash of light--at first it seems like it’s lightning, but then you see something. A vision of a man dressed in rags, hunched over, waves of demonic power rolling over him. He howls, and something terrible starts to grow out of him: the bloody roots of a massive tree. An immense wave of panic hits you, and you can’t move, you can’t speak, you can’t breathe--

And then it’s over. It’s over. You’re fine.

The sound of rain returns. (This time it’s definitely soothing, compared to what you just saw.) You’re standing in the foyer of a mansion, a wide open living room in front of you. The door behind you is faintly ajar, leading outside.

[ she's going to head over to the "playground" and set a hand on the side the kid isn't sitting on, slowly lowering her end and slowly rising his own. ]

What are you doing out here all alone?

He rises, but just looks at you with the same kind of sullen expression.

"I live here."

How about we head inside then? It looks pretty grim out here, and I could use a little help navigating the place. Maybe there's even something I could do for you in return.

"I can't go inside."

... [ frowns. ] Is there a reason? well, I guess you don't have to share if you don't want to, but you're looking pretty down out here. Anything you want me to get you from inside?

"I just... can't."

He kicks his feet.

"There is something..."

[ climbs onto the see-saw, so the both of them can see & saw like this thing's supposed to. ] If it'll make you smile, even just a little, then tell me what it is and I'll see if I can't find it for you.

He kind of huffs at the idea of smiling, but pushes up from the ground on the seesaw anyway, because in the end he is just a kid. It creaks loudly.

"I left my book inside. It's probably in the library. If you bring it back to me, I'll give you something. Sound fair?"

[ she's going to smile from her end of the seesaw as he starts moving it along with her. ] I'll find it for you. [ gives him a salute. ] Because that sounds fairer than fair.

And, hey, maybe if you're not too busy once you've gotten your book... we can do a little more of this? s'Fun.

"It's just a seesaw."

But he's still pushing, so, you know.

"It's Songs of Innocence and Experience by William Blake. My copy has a V on the cover."

And it's just fun. [ shrugs. she'll stick around for a liiiittle bit longer, but then she ought to head back inside and poke around some more. she's got a book to find! ]

It's not like you've got to do something super crazy... though, not going to lie to you, that's my favorite brand of thing to do. Remind me to show you something cool later, alright? [ carefully climbs off the seesaw. ]

I'm going to go try to find your book.

He watches you go.

"Okay. I'll be waiting."

[ she throws him a thumbs up as she heads back inside to the living room. ]

Alright, time to find the library... now where the heck should I go from here?
