The first thing you hear is the sound of rain faintly hitting the exterior of the house. The soft pitter-patter is almost soothing, in a way, but it’s quickly followed up by rumbling thunder in the distance. You open your eyes, and for a second all you see is a flash of light--at first it seems like it’s lightning, but then you see something. A vision of a man dressed in rags, hunched over, waves of demonic power rolling over him. He howls, and something terrible starts to grow out of him: the bloody roots of a massive tree. An immense wave of panic hits you, and you can’t move, you can’t speak, you can’t breathe--

And then it’s over. It’s over. You’re fine.

The sound of rain returns. (This time it’s definitely soothing, compared to what you just saw.) You’re standing in the foyer of a mansion, a wide open living room in front of you. The door behind you is faintly ajar, leading outside.

It's fine. I don't want to disturb you much, if you're tired.

He blinks again a few times, still drowsy, and then he reaches out to touch the wound on her thigh--but stops before he can make contact.

"... you're hurt."

It was a battle well-fought.

[ she takes his arm by the wrist to tug his hand down to rest gingerly on her thigh. ]

So, I think I can be proud of it, and my ally in fighting it.

He gives her a long look, a little sad.

"... I'm sorry my heart can't let go of that pain. That it hurt you."

He lets go of her thigh for a moment to pick up the frappuccino monstrosity and hand it to her.

"Here, try this."

Ah, thank you—

It tastes amazing, for one. You might not even like drinks that are very sweet, but somehow this just tastes... really good.

After a moment, you realize that the pain in your leg is a little less now. Like someone numbed the area.

Ah—

...it does really make one feel better.

He smiles. "You must have fought hard... you can rest here, if you need to."

Do you know what's going on here, though...?

"I think so. Things have been... shuffled around, so to speak. It's not where it should be. And... as much as I adore your company, you shouldn't be here either. I think people entering my heart caused things to get moved around."

Ah... well, I was able to put your sword back in the chandelier, at least.

Is there anything here that needs to be somewhere else? I can put it aright, if that helps.

He focuses for a moment, pinching his brow.

"It's... hard to tell. Everything feels chaotic... I know there's... nothing missing in here. But there is at least... one thing... that doesn't belong."

Ah, but it's mostly books in here, so I'm not sure...

"Is there one in particular you're looking for? I can find it."

What sort of things should be in your library? If there's things that don't belong.

"There's nothing that's missing, as far as I can tell. But not every book belongs in here, for example."

Well—maybe I'll go look at the shelves again, to see if anything looks out of place.

[ and leans over to drop a kiss on top of his head. ]

He smiles at her, and there's a bit of color on his cheeks now.

now that she's spoken to Raven, she's going to go over to the bookshelves nearest and see what sorts of things are here—for example, if there's any pattern.

Unfortunately, there does not appear to be any patterns you can surmise. The book you got Raven does fit, though.

You see Byron, Shakespeare, Blake, Poe, Shelley, Hugo, Verne, authors and poets from all eras... there really is nothing cohesive about this library at all.

Ahaha...

Maybe I'll come back here after I've thought about it, then. It's probably easier to know what's missing from another room...
