SUMMARY: V and Griphon are waiting outside of Devil May Cry, while Morrison tells Dante about the job. V is a bit nervous about going in, as it's been a long time since Dante and Vergil had spoken face to face. Griphon suggests doing something "unVergil-like" to clear any suspicions, such as cracking a joke. V enters the building silently, pondering. When Dante asks him for his name, V quotes Blake--"I have no name; I am but two days old. Just kidding... you can call me V." Griphon telepathically tells him that was a pretty lame joke.
V explains his reason for hiring Dante: a powerful demon is about to resurrect. Dante laughs and says he's heard that line often, but V catches his attention.
V: This demon is your "reason". Your reason for fighting, Dante. Dante: This demon got a name? V: Vergil.
[silence]
Dante: People who come asking for demon extermination... most of them tend to either lie or exaggerate. I'm not that petty to get mad about it every single time. Lie if you want to. I'll kill that demon regardless. But... you've got to pick better names for stories you come up with, you know?
Immediately the air in the room changes. Dante's emitting wave after wave of demonic power, and for a normal human it would be enough to bring them to their knees, or at least send them running in fear. However, V only feels thrilled. (And a little horny) Seeing Dante get so visibly angry at the mention of Vergil's name is reassuring, somehow, even though Griphon is panicking. V says the demon, Urizen, will resurrect in Red Grave, which catches Dante's attention. He suggests watching the news for signs of a demon outbreak in the area in the coming days, to confirm his claim.
Before V leaves, he catches sight of the framed picture of Eva, Dante and Vergil's mother, on Dante's desk. He feels his heart twist, and quickly looks away.
