SUMMARY: Takes place after this memory. V and co. have tracked down Nightmare, and it becomes clear very quickly that they have severely underestimated just how powerful this thing is. It's legendary in the Underworld for being unstable and dangerous, and it takes out Shadow in one hit. V ends up being swallowed by Nightmare's gaping maw and sees visions of his (Vergil's) past that have taken root in the core of Nightmare. He lands in front of a massive statue of Mundus and Nelo Angelo appears. Even though V tries to banish it, it effortlessly grabs him and starts to strangle him. He's unexpectedly saved, however, by a vision of a younger Dante, circa DMC 1. Even that is a painful memory, however, and V demands to know why he's being shown these visions. He knows why, though--it's his insecurity over being weaker than Dante. Vergil's emotions are very prevalent here.
V isn't going to give up, though. He struggles and manages to grab Nightmare's core, though it's clear his strength is giving out and his body's endurance won't hold out for much longer. As he finally emerges from inside Nightmare, he triumphantly holds the core as Nightmare's essence bleeds off of him.
